Sieyant LLC ("Sieyant," "we," "us") provides tax preparation, tax strategy, and bookkeeping services. This policy explains what information we collect through our website, client portal, and admin systems, and how we use, share, and protect it.
Contact and account information: name, email, phone number, and login credentials when you contact us, book a consultation, or create a client portal account.
Tax and financial information: documents you upload (W-2s, 1099s, prior returns, and similar), answers to our intake questionnaire, and information about any related business entities you tell us about.
Bookkeeping data: if you use our bookkeeping service, transaction data you enter manually, import from a file, or connect via a linked bank or credit card account (through Plaid, described below).
Payment information: handled directly by Stripe, our payment processor. We never receive or store your full card number.
Usage information: standard web analytics (Google Analytics) about how visitors use our public website, to understand what content is useful and improve it.
We use your information to prepare and file tax returns, provide bookkeeping and advisory services, communicate with you about your engagement, process payment for our services, and operate and improve our website and client portal.
Federal law (26 U.S.C. §7216) restricts how tax return preparers may use or disclose the information you provide for tax preparation. We use your tax return information only to prepare your return and provide the services you engage us for, unless you give us separate written consent for another use.
As part of preparing your documents, we may use an AI tool (currently Anthropic's Claude) to help extract data from documents you upload, such as identifying the payer and amounts on a W-2 or 1099. This is a preparation aid reviewed by your preparer — it does not make any decisions about your return. You may decline this by telling us, and documents will be reviewed manually instead.
If you choose to connect a bank or credit card account for bookkeeping, we use Plaid Inc. to securely retrieve your account and transaction data. We never see or store your bank login credentials — Plaid handles that connection directly with your financial institution. We only receive transaction data (date, amount, description) and basic account details (name, last four digits, type). You can disconnect a linked account at any time, which stops future syncing; previously imported transactions remain in your books unless you ask us to remove them. Plaid's own privacy policy, at plaid.com/legal, describes how Plaid itself handles your data.
We don't sell your information. We share it only with the service providers that help us operate:
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Sieyant or others.
We retain client records, including tax documents and financial data, for seven years, consistent with standard tax preparer recordkeeping practice, after which they are securely deleted unless a longer period is required by law. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to client data is restricted by role — only authorized staff can view client records, and only to the extent needed to do their job. These practices are documented in our internal Written Information Security Plan, maintained under the FTC Safeguards Rule.
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. Some information, such as filed tax returns, must be retained for the period required by law regardless of a deletion request.
California residents: under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion or correction, and opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell or share your personal information. You will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Our public website uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate visitor behavior. The client portal and admin systems use only the cookies necessary for you to stay logged in securely.
Our services are directed at adults engaging Sieyant for tax and financial services and are not intended for children under 18.
We may update this policy as our services evolve. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do, and material changes will be communicated to active clients directly.
